Moin,
also ich verwende derzeit den NV Standardtreiber für X11 und das funktioniert auch reibungslos. Mein Problem setzt an, dass – sobald der nvidia-eigene Treiber als Kernelmodul installiert und geladen wurde und dieser auch in der xorg.conf angegeben wurde, startet zwar der xserver verliert aber sofort das Signal zum Monitor. Anschl. hilft nur noch ein reboot.

Laut dem Logfile gibt es zwar keine direkte Fehlermeldung im Zusammenhang mit dem Nvidia-Modul, interessant dürfte vielleicht das hier sein:

Ich weiß leider nur nichts damit anzufangen, bin mir auch nicht sicher, ob es einfach ein config-problem oder ein Hardware-Problem ist.
Die Karte ist eine Geforce 4000 MX.

Hi,
wegen so einem Kram mit den NVIDIA-Treibern habe ich auch schon Stunden vor dem Rechner verbracht. Ich verwende jetzt einfach den NV-Treiber. Aber wenn es sein musste habe ich sie immer zum Laufen gebracht. Also gib die Hoffnung nicht auf!
Ich erinnere mich an Probleme mit dem framebuffer und dem 3D-Support. Meistens habe ich aber Probleme mit den Monitordaten. Ein paar Details haettest du schon noch posten koennen.

Hallo Marcel,

da wäre es interessant, ob nur die Grafik für den Bildschirm nicht mehr darstellbar ist, oder ob der Rechner wirklich abstürzt.
Läßst sich noch mit Strg-Alt-F2 auf eine Konsole wechelsen?
Bringt Druck auf die Num-Taste das Num-Lämpchen zum Wechseln des Zustandes?
Hast Du die Möglichkeit von einem anderen Rechner aus per ssh zu zu greifen?

Aus dem log-Schnipsel im Vergleich zu meiner /var/log/XFree86.0.log vermute ich fast, dass das nvidia-modul gar nicht richtig geladen wird. Bei mir gibt es zum Beispiel davor

Geht das ohne Probleme (lsmod zeigt geladene Module). Welche Grafikkarte hast Du und welche nvidia-Treiber-Verrsion? Welche Distribution?

Hallo Andreas,

zur ersten frage: Der Rechner stürtzt nach meinen beobachtungen zwar nicht ab, allerdings lässt sich der xserver nicht mehr beenden (zumindest kommt das Signal danach nicht wieder). Es hilft nur ein Neustart manchmal durch STRG+ALT+Entf, manchmal nur noch durch drücken des Resetbuttons.

Das Nvidia-Modul ist richtig geladen, sowohl lsmod als auch ein entsprechender eintrag im logfile zeigen das. Ich kanns es momentan nur leider nicht posten, da derzeit nicht zu hause.
Als Distri verwende ich Gentoo. Die Nvidia-Version die ich verwendet hab, weiß ich zwar nicht auswendig…sollte aber die aktuelle im Portage sein, bzw. hab auch die aktuellen Treiber von der nvidia-webseite heruntergeladen. Brachte beides die gleichen Effekte.

Als Karte verwende ich die Geforce 4000 MX. Ich muß dazu sagen, dass die Karte neu ist. Mit der Geforce 2 MX hatte ich zuvor nie ein Problem mit dem nvidia-treiber.

Evtl. nochmal zum Effekt: Es ist nicht einfach so, dass keine Grafik angezeigt wird. Der Monitor bekommt einfach kein Signal mehr (obwohl die eingetragenen Daten in der xorg.conf stimmen).

Wie zu entnehmen, wird das nvidia-modul richtig geladen, Graka wird auch genaustens erkannt. Ich weiß wirklich momentan nicht ob es sich dabei einfach um ein Problem mit dem Modul handelt, oder ob da ein Hardware-Problem auftritt.

Hallo Marcel,

danke für die ausführliche Beschreibung. Das sieht wirklich so aus, als würde der Rechner noch laufen. Dann könnte — auch noch was erreichen (falls der Framebuffer nicht schon abgeschossen ist).

Stutzig machen mich:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Monitor0: Using default hsync range of 30.00-96.00 kHz
(II) NVIDIA(0): Monitor0: Using default vrefresh range of 50.00-160.00 Hz
und
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode “2048×1536”
Eine Auflösung von 2048×1536 wird verwendet! Das ist schon heftig. Dann noch bis 160 Hz. Da muß wohl mancher Monitor die Segel streichen. Ich würde die alte XF86Config sichern und dann mal zum Test die hohen Auflösungen raus nehmen. Eine 1280×1024 sollte es tun – mindestens aber 1024×768. Wenn das klappt kann man weiter probieren.

Hallo Andreas,

erstmal vielen Dank für dein Beitrag. Was die Monitorangaben betrifft, ich hab sie aus den Daten des Handbuchs entnommen. Über den NV-Treiber wie auch über den nvidia-treiber aber alte Karte lief das auch Reibungslos.

Was die hohe Auflösung betrifft, stutz ich selber gerade, da eine solche Auflösung nirgends in der xorg.conf angegeben wird.

Ich seh sie mir jetzt nochmal komplett an.

So, scheinbar ist das Problem bekannt mit dieser Karte. Die Lösung des Problems war es, einfach in der Device-Section der xorg.conf die Option nvAGP 0 einzutragen und nun läuft auch der Nvidia-Treiber.
