Hello,

first time I look for advice in this community. May be there is some one who can help to resolve the following basic problem.

I started my computing life with Apple (Apple IIe) long time ago. The more modern machine is a MacBookPro which works perfectly but I have got more and more problems with the software. I can’t update anymore Firefox, Google Chrome and some other important programs.

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.6

MacBookPro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Processor 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I need easy connection to the internet which I resolved by a Samsung netbook with Ubuntu-22.04. I am trying since months to install a linux version on this MacBookPro by using VirtualBox. I tried different linux versions but they don’t run. On the following you can see what I have tried already using a ventoy memory stick.

iso-files with ventoy

kali-linux-2022.4-live-amd64

mabox-linux-21.04-Foltest-210419-linux510

sparkylinux-6.5-i686-minimalgui

sparkylinux-7.2-x86_64-xfce

tails-amd64-5.14

ubuntu-22.04.1-desktop-amd64

Is there somebody who can give me some important hints to resolve my problem? Just tell me if you need some more informations.

Greetings,

Yes, I can help you. Last year I became a MacBook Pro of 2010, 15 years old.
I changed the old SSD for an HDD 1TB. First I have installed Debian 12 64bit and it funktioned.
After this, I have tried to change to Linux Mint Ubuntu 22 and I was succesfully.
Don’t give up .

Gérard from Germany.

you can use open core legacy patcher to install for example Sequoia, work well on your MID 2012 Macbook Pro. A must: change to an ssd and add at minimu 8GB RAM, DDR3 12800 is very cheap. with kind regards, Oliver (also a Dual boot linux and macOS Sequoia is no problem)
